About us

My name is Ava Babula. I am the founder and CEO of Beginner Bookworms. My mother inspired me to found this project; she grew up as an orphan, and thus did not have resources nor guidance in the field of reading. So, she taught me how to read around two years old to help give me a better start. By teaching me how to read at an early age, my mother not only gave me advanced reading comprehension and writing skills, but instilled in me a lifelong love for books.

At the time, I didn’t realize how crucial reading would be to my academic success and personal development.  Today, I understand that advanced reading skills are linked to academic success, a fact that has been proven over and over again. However, reading has also helped me get through difficult times in my life by providing an escape from the world when I needed it. Just as I was given these tools for academic success and personal growth, I want to make them available to everyone, especially underprivileged children, who have great potential but lack the resources to achieve it.

At Beginner Bookworms, our mission is to teach underprivileged children how to read to ensure academic success, boosting their school performance and helping them to gain confidence in their education in order to bolster their future endeavors. In order to do this, I will implement a proven reading program in schools in my area with low literacy rates. To help illiterate children in need of resources and education, consider donating. All proceeds go to funding materials vital for learning, like books, pencils, and paper, and helping us get our specialized reading program into the hands of underprivileged children.
